Meet The MusiCounts Scholarship Recipient - Jack Thomas

Aeroplan Miles help MusiCounts reach schools and communities across Canada with instruments, allow us to create meaningful experiences for MusiCounts Scholarship recipients and the Teacher of the Year, and to raise funds via silent auctions.

Thanks to donated Aeroplan Miles, MusiCounts was able to bring MusiCounts Scholarship recipients like Jack Thomas from Nimbus School of Recording and Media in Vancouver to Toronto for an intensive mentorship week. Recipients engaged with industry leaders to build their skills, industry contacts and help launch their careers.

Jack shared his experience of the MusiCounts Scholarship Mentorship Week with us:

"My entire life has revolved around music. When I lost my arm, I thought my whole life was over. I thought every goal and dream I had in having a musical career and helping my family was impossible for me to reach. Instead, I pushed myself harder than I thought was humanly possible and re-learned how to do everything in my life, including brand new things like music production. Now I’m ready to show the world what I’m made of; to prove to myself and everyone that despite my major physical disability, I can be a successful, cutting edge musician, audio engineer, and producer.

The MusiCounts Scholarship Mentorship Week exceeded my expectations ten-fold. It was a very interactive and engaging week filled with multiple opportunities. The networking sessions gave me the chance to speak with industry professionals to gain greater insight on the music world. It taught me about promoting up-and-coming artists, which was helpful as I eventually want to elevate young artists by providing them with honest advice and high quality production and service. Overall, the experience was uplifting."
