About

Together, we are cultivating hope one village at a time by empowering villagers to escape extreme poverty and live independently!

Love a Village Mission is making a difference by bringing hope to Malawian villages. Working in partnership with Rural Development Partners, and alongside local leaders, we pursue a sustainable and healthy future for vulnerable communities. We collaborate to meet needs for CLEAN WATER, FOOD SECURITY, SAFE SHELTER, HYGIENE, a FOCUS ON GIRLS, and more. The paralyzing grip of extreme poverty can be broken by empowering families to stay healthy and gain the skills and training needed to become independent and self-sustaining.

We are the main charity working in our community. Our projects are in northern Malawi amongst the poorest of the poor. Without our projects (no handouts), these villagers would remain without hope for a healthy and sustainable future. Help us get there.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

  • No poverty

Love a Village is a small grassroots organization dedicated to eliminating the grip of extreme poverty in the northern region of Malawi. With an aim to empower villagers using a holistic community-based approach, we are working to give them the ability to create independence and self-sustainability for themselves. Our mandate is to equip them through collaboration, and education with a holistic approach in the following 5 areas of basic need: water, food, housing, hygiene, education. Their cycle of poverty can be broken by empowering families to stay healthy by gaining the skills, knowledge and training needed to become independent & self-sustainable.

  • Zero hunger

Villagers rely on subsistence farming for NUTRITION and existence, therefore improving practices and diversifying into new areas of agriculture and animal husbandry is the LIFE-CHANGING difference that makes villagers self sustaining! For thousands in Luhomero, food will run out by October, with harvest not until April of the next year. Traditional farming practices have many disadvantages. Why not plant a seed and improve the lives for many families? Here are the ways we are helping to provide FOOD security for Villagers: Conservation Agriculture Beekeeping Mushroom Farming Reforestation Pigs, Goats, Chickens Composting

  • Good health and well-being

NO ONE should DIE from not having access to a toilet! Having a CLEAN and secure TOILET is a basic and ESSENTIAL need for every human being. Without safe and clean sanitation DISEASE and INFECTION can be STOPPED through simple strategies to provide proper hygiene. Some of the facts: 2.6 billion people do not have access to a proper toilet 1,400 children die every day from dehydration caused by diarrhea 10 grams of fecal matter from cross contamination is consumed daily by people without a toilet Urination into rivers are responsible for water borne diarrhea and dysentery. Diarrhea is the 2nd leading cause of children dying

  • Gender equality

In our developed world EDUCATION is a right, however for millions of young girls in Malawi this is not their REALITY. In fact 62,000,000 girls around the world are not in school, and globally nearly 1 in 5 adolescent girls are out of school. Girls are not getting the education they should have a right to, simply because they're GIRLS, and there are many barriers that effect them from getting any education. Their parents are not always convinced of the value of their education, and they are often forced to leave school to help at home. They may also become pregnant or are married off by the family, or the school is too far to travel to, and parents think their daughters’ are at risk. In addition adolescent girls are forced to miss school because of poor access to menstrual hygiene products, and girls are disproportionately subjected to school-related gender based violence, and this affects them in, around, and en route to and from schools. Regardless of all of these barriers, EDUCATION SHAPES the life potential for girls, and helps them to break the cycle of poverty. We know that for every extra year a girl stays in school, her future income can increase by 15-25 percent, and girls with more education go on to have healthier children, that are more likely to attend school themselves. By GIVING girls marketable SKILLS that help to offset the costs of an EDUCATION, we BELIEVE it's the best investment we can make to help end poverty, and are committed to getting girls back in the classroom, where they can thrive and grow to their full potential. At LOVE A VILLAGE we know first hand that when we empower a girl with education, the whole world can change!

  • Clean water and sanitation

Water is NON-NEGOTIABLE for survival, and it is UNTHINKABLE to stand by while villagers are forced to rely on contaminated water for their daily lives. Through simple and creative initiatives implemented through our partnerships with local leaders, you can join us to make a difference and give villagers life giving clean water through Boreholes, Shallow Wells, and Water Filters,
