UN Sustainable Development Goals
-
Quality education
Equitas specializes in human rights education that trains human rights defenders to engage community members in learning what their rights are and how to claim them. Equitas' goal is that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation and respect for cultural diversity.
-
Gender equality
Equitas uses a human rights-based approach to analyze gender discrimination and design solutions to address inequalities, encourage increased participation of women and girls in leadership, and promote the protection of the rights of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
-
Reduced inequalities
Equitas collaborates with partners in Canada and worldwide to support groups disproportionately affected by social and economic inequalities, such as refugees and asylum seekers.
-
Sustainable cities and communities
Equitas seeks to create communities that are more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. For instance, human rights defenders fighting for the rights of people with disabilities have participated in Equitas' training programs, using their strengthened networks and skills to advocate for accessibility and inclusion. Equitas' vision is of spaces where all are welcomed and safe to participate to the fullest extent of their ability.
-
Peace, justice and strong institutions
Human rights education contributes to peaceful and inclusive societies. Equitas' human rights education programs engage human rights defenders, organizations, and community members in how to collaborate to hold institutions and decision-makers accountable to human rights. Our programs also seek to empower often marginalized groups, such as women and youth, to claim greater representation in decision-making spheres.
