About
From Apr. 22–May 5, Air Canada will match the points you donate to The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada, up to a grand total of 500,000 points.
Inspired by our founder, the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada is protecting endangered great apes and their habitat, and creating a more just and sustainable world through community-centred conservation that supports people, protects wildlife, and heals our shared environments in both Canada and Africa. We “inspire hope through action” and encourage everyone to embrace their individual power to make a difference.
Our Programs:
The Jane Goodall Institute protects wild chimpanzees and other primates through the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center, the largest sanctuary in Africa for primates rescued from wildlife traffickers. We also support law enforcement efforts to reduce illegal trafficking.
At the Jane Goodall Institute Tchimpounga Sanctuary:
• Over 140 chimpanzees are housed and cared for
• 70+ billboards have been placed in surrounding communities discouraging people from poaching great apes
• Nearly 100 Tchimpounga chimps live on three islands that are part of the sanctuary where the habitat is most like living in the wild
The Institute also collaborates with local communities in Canada and Africa to design and implement solutions to climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental inequity.
Through our Building Community Resistance to Climate Change in Senegal program, we are:
• Supporting local communities (especially women) to implement nature-based solutions to climate change that generate income and centre women’s leadership.
• 21 villages are improving climate-smart agriculture practices, accessing income-generating opportunities through charcoal, and implementing sustainable forest management, including agroforestry and forest fire prevention
Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is our youth-led community action program in Canada.
Through our current Roots & Shoots Program:
• Tens of thousands of young people across Canada are working on projects that protect animals, people, and the environment
• These youth-led projects impact 121,000+ community members
• Grants up to $5,000 support Indigenous youth and their intergenerational allies in developing projects that advance reconciliation and decolonization through conservation, preserve the environment for future generations and strengthen Indigenous youth resilience and well-being.
Your generous donation will allow JGI Canada to offset administrative costs for necessary national and international travel, allowing a larger portion of our funds raised to go directly to our critical programs.
Thank you for your support!
